Not aggressive for painted surfaces, plastics. DOT 5 is not hygroscopic and therefore does not absorb water. Not compatible with anti-lock brakes.

Note: Do not mix with DOT 3 & 4 brake fluids. Tech Tip: If you want to use DOT 5, it might be easier to decide if it's right for you, with some extra knowledge about this type of brake fluid.

DOT 5 silicone is not aggressive to painted surfaces, plastics and has anti-corrosion properties, is not hygroscopic and therefore does not absorb water.

Great features for vehicles that are not often used. However, when water builds up in the brake system over time and is not absorbed by the brake fluid, it could theoretically create water pockets that can boil under extreme conditions.

This can lead to vapor lock and total brake failure. Since DOT 5 silicone does not absorb water, the collected water may not be completely removed from the brake system when the brake fluid is changed. DOT 5 silicone should never be mixed with DOT 3 or 4 brake fluids.

It is also not compatible with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) or ASR (Anti-Slip Control) because it makes foaming easier.

Note that The Factory used DOT 5 until about 2006, roughly when ABS was introduced ...
